Tour Description
Travel along the scenic north coast until we arrive at the Hampden Rum Factory for a guided tour.
Hampden estate is one of the oldest sugar estates in Jamaica. Renowned throughout Jamaica’s rum history for its full, intensely flavorful pot still rums, it continues today to be the quintessential heavy pot rum of choice throughout Europe and other parts of the world.
Surveyed in 1743, Hampden operated as a large sugar plantation circa 1753 under the ownership of Mr. Archibald Sterling of Scotland. In 1779 Mr. Sterling built the Hampden Great House of which the ground floor served as a rum store until the early 1900s. Hampden Estate is firmly set in Jamaican history as it established the Hampden Presbyterian Church, circa 1824, the first of that denomination to be established in Jamaica. In 1955, the old boiler house, which was located at Gales Valley on the Estate, was donated by the owners of Hampden to Her Royal Highness Princess Alice, who was then Chancellor of the UWI. She arranged for it to be dismantled, block by block. Each building stone was meticulously numbered, then transported to the Mona Campus and reassembled. It took three years to complete the task. When it was done, this beautiful Georgian building, made with finely dressed limestone from Hampden Estate, was reborn as the University Chapel, which is today considered an architectural gem.
During World War 1, Hampden constructed the Hampden Wharf in Falmouth for shipment of its sugar and rums which is today a major entry port for “The Oasis of the Seas” the worlds largest cruise ship. Additionally, the wharf facilities will now serve as a major tourist hub. The estate has donated lands for schools, housing and for many other social infrastructure uses. Post 1827 the estate came into the ownership of D.O. Kelly-Lawson who became Custos of St. James in 1875 and Justice Of The Peace of Trelawny. His daughter Ena Kelly-Lawson married a Mr. Farquharson, which on her death, inherited Hampden. The estate which is set within the famed “Queen of Spain Valley” consists of approximately 3500 acres. The Farquharson’s operated the estate producing sugar and rum until 2003 when it came under the ownership of the Jamaica Sugar Company of Jamaica. The estate is renowned for possessing the best cane lands in Jamaica producing the highest Ton Sugar from Ton Cane milled. During this time its rums were exported exclusively to Europe, England and Scotland.
In 2009, Everglades Farms Ltd. owned by the Hussey family, acquired the estate via public bid through divestment procedures of the Jamaica Sugar Company assets, owned by the Government of Jamaica. A commitment by Everglades Farm to pump some US$6.2 million (J$549.8 million) into the Long Pond and Hampden sugar estates has brought renewed hope to the people of the region and to the economy of Trelawny. The Hussey family is committed to preserving the great traditions of Hampden and to the preservation of old family business values, a necessary prerequisite given that several of Hampden’s current customers can trace their orders back in excess of 50 years.
After your tour, we will take you back to your Cruise Ship Pier or Ocho Rios Resort.

Good Afternoon Dwight, just wanted to thank you for all of your assistance answering my questions and assisting us in booking our airport transfers and excursions in Jamaica.
Michael our driver was always on time and the perfect host. He met us at the airport and drove us through a pretty bad storm going to Ocho Rios. He was very helpful in assistance us at Blue Hole and Dunn’s River to get our tickets for entry and drive us safely back home.
I would highly recommend him and his professionalism.

We visited Ocho Rios port as part of our cruise in August. Before our excursion, we were contacted by Dwight to ensure a smooth day. This included what to bring and gave an idea of what to expect which o really liked.
On the day, our Driver Alex was very upbeat and friendly. He talked about sights as we passed by with fun facts and also about the parishes. The overall experience was very seamless and timely as we had 2 excursions in one.

Thanks to Dwight for assistance with booking. We got to see exactly what we wanted to see during our short stay in Jamaica (cruising on Carnival Glory). Next time I hope to be able to spend more time.
Our driver/guide Biggs was awesome! Loved that he shared local fruits with us! He was very informative and attentive. We felt safe and well looked after. Couldn’t ask for a better guide.

This excursion was the highlight of our trip! Our driver Willy was great. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the island and we got to learn some Jamaican history. The guides at Blue Hole/Secret Falls were the best! They really made us feel safe and had us laughing the entire time. I don’t know if my mom would’ve done the bigger jump if it weren’t for them. The guide and photographer at Dunn’s River Falls were also excellent. Overall, we loved this excursion and feel it exceeded our expectations.

Thank you very much for checking in. My mom and I had a great time. Ryan was amazing and just so nice in showing us around. He made sure we had a great time and we got back to our ship on time. We asked a lot of questions about Jamaica and he was so helpful. We decided that next time we come back to Jamaica we were going to book an Airbnb. We would also love to book another tour with your company too. We really enjoy the Bob Marley Tour and he took us to his favorite restaurant he love to eat at. One day wasn’t enough for us to enjoy Jamaica so we would love to come back.

We had an excellent time going to the secret falls and river tubing in Ocho Rios. Grant was an excellent guide. He was on time, friendly, and a safe driver. It was lovely chatting with him and he definitely read the vibe of the group. At the beginning of the trip, he let us know that he’d be happy to take us wherever throughout the day. One of people in our group wanted to go to an authentic Jamaican restaurant and he took us to Linda’s which was an incredible!
My boys wanted to get cornrows so while we were at the restaurant he went and found someone in town who would be willing to do it right at the restaurant. He also took us to a shop to purchase a few souvenirs. When we didn’t see anything we liked, he took us to two other stores.
Best of all, he knew when we are getting tired toward the end of the day and delivered us safely back to our hotel. If we could give him more than five stars we would.
We hope to return to Jamaica one day and will definitely look you up and recommend you to other people traveling to the area.

Wheelchair Accessible Excursion
We booked this excursion for 5 adults and 2 of the adults are in heavy power wheelchairs. We were picked up at the port by a van that held both chairs and the other 3 passengers comfortably. Our driver was very knowledgeable and worked hard to make our day special. The wheelchair accessible area of the Falls was not available that day, so he made arrangements for us to go to the beach at the bottom of the falls and insisted on unloading the two wheelchairs so that they could enjoy the beach. It was definitely the highlight of our tour and we made memories that we will never forget.
Fun Times in Jamaica
By far one of the best excursions we have had in the Islands. The Blue Hole and Secret Falls were gorgeous. Even though I was too scared to jump I got to video all my family taking the plunge and enjoying themselves. The River Tube was more my speed and what a great time floating down the river, with a few rapids mixed in, and enjoying the beautiful lush scenery. Our tour guides were very attentive and helpful.
